Air Separation

I also had the privilege of working on two compressors for an air separation plant: MAC (Air) and COMBO (Nitrogen). These integrally geared centrifugal compressors were implemented into the plant in order to produce purified oxygen, nitrogen and argon gases. For example, purified oxygen is critical in the making of steel and is also used in the medical field.

MAC (Main Air Compressor)

Creates the initial air compression for the air separation unit. Some of the compressor specs include:

-Process type: Air
-Number of stages: 3
-Capacity : 65,000 Nm3/h
-Inlet pressure: 1 barA
-Discharge pressure: 6 barA
-API 672 compliant

Note: N in "Nm3/h" stands for metric normal conditions, which is measured at standard temperature and pressure

COMBO (Nitrogen Recycle Compressor)

Pressurizes recycled pure nitrogen gas as needed for condensing. It was designed to be two compressors in one, with one being a FNC (feed nitrogen compressor) + RNC (recycle nitrogen compressor). Some of the specs included:

-Special features: compact footprint design
-Process type: Nitrogen
-Number of stages: 5 stages
-FNC: 1 barA inlet: 6 barA discharge
-RNC: 6 barA inlet: 31 barA discharge
