Background:

This animation was made using SolidWorks 2014, Adobe After Effects/Premiere Pro. It includes exploded views, dynamic section cuts, and part motion (although the balls don't rotate as they should).
I made this project to learn more about ball bearings since they are commonly used in many applications from cars to bicycles. I chose the single row deep groove (radial) ball bearing, since this tends to be the most common type. This type of bearing has fair radial and thrust load capacities, it's excellent for high speed, accuracy, and for low noise and torque, and has good capacity for angular misalignment. The most common ball bearing manufacturer's in the industry are SKF and NSK. I ended up using the NSK standard for sizing and modeling my bearing in this project.

My Bearing Design:

-Bearing type: Single row deep groove ball bearing
(Bearing hierarchy: Rolling bearing/ball bearing/radial bearing type/ deep groove type/single row)
-Part no: 6204 (using NSK standard, Width series=2, Diameter Series=2)
-Bore size: 20 mm
-Outside diameter:  42 mm
-Width: 12.65 mm
-Radial internal clearance: 0.013-0.028 mm (assumed C3)
-Bearing material: Chrome alloy steel
-Cage type & material: Riveted/ Brass (other common types include tongue and poly-amide)
-Shield type & material: Double fixed w/ snap ring/ Stainless Steel (other options are open style (no shield or seal) or seal type (best for keeping out contaminants))
-Radial clearance between the shield bore and the inner ring OD: 0.127 mm
-Lubrication: Grease (other option is oil, which is best for high speeds)
-Rated speed: Low speed & low temp.
-Radial load capacity: fair
-Axial (Thrust) load capacity: fair
